Meet Nathan

Nathan is a former public school social studies teacher, an education historian, and a community activist committed to social justice.

Nathan Tanner is a Ph.D. Candidate in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

An interdisciplinary non-Native settler scholar of education history, education leadership and policy, critical race theory, as well as Native American and Indigenous studies, Nathan is concerned with understanding histories of racism, settler colonialism, and white supremacy and addressing the challenges these structures present in contemporary schools and society.

Nathan’s book reviews can be read in History of Education and History of Education Quarterly and he has published his work in Religions and the Handbook of Social Justice Interventions in Education. He has also published a co-edited book with Information Age Publishing titled, Preparing to Lead: Narratives of Aspiring School Leaders in a “Post”-COVID World.
